Job Description Purpose of the job: As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the day to day maintenance, administration, support and tuning of a multi-server, multi-cloud environment. Typical tasks would be: Performance monitoring, tuning, and reporting. Root cause analysis and solution design for escalated issues Database administration, upgrading and maintenance. Backup planning and implementation, including Disaster Recovery and testing. Configuration, monitoring and application of best practices. Deployment and configuration of new SQL instances. Capacity monitoring, planning and implementation. Reviewing and executing approved RFCs What will you do: Software installation and Maintenance • A good understanding of install options vs requirements as set up by the requestor • Be able to maintain Database engine version, compatibility control and updates • A good understanding on Memory allocation / Lock page allocations and assignment based on availability and best practice • A fair knowledge of operating Windows server edition, Storage Spaces, and similar technologies. Database Backup and Recovery • Database restoration to test servers on a regular basis • Additional backups for special event (IE, data changes and ERP check according to the Change control process and approvals) • Setup and maintain Daily (Incremental) / Weekly (full) and Hourly (Log) backups Security and Authentication • Application security setup • A good understanding of Server roles, Schema security, user, and group security Capacity Planning • Monitor Database growth and plan future capacity requirements • Make capacity recommendations and advise on new solutions Performance Monitoring and Database Tuning • Required to report on performance and suggested improvements • Performance and resource monitoring Including but not limited to Memory requirements, CPU usage, Drive performance and network I/O • A good understanding on when and how to re-organize / re-build indexes and understanding their respective performance impacts. Specialised Data Handling • Advise on performance and improvement of data movement • A general understanding of Azure storage capabilities and advise on the best options for moving data between Azure and on-prem environments Reporting services • Maintain and audit reports as per the “Request for change process” as well as report on data failures. • Create and Maintain data sources, data driven and scheduled subscriptions • Maintain user access (User groups) SharePoint • SharePoint access, trouble shooting and database maintenance
Qualification Requirements
Relevant degree MCSE with microsoft SQL
