Overall Purpose of the Job: The Junior Software developer will design, create, maintain and implement software systems, which includes the architecture of applications, databases and systems for the Group. The Junior Software Developer will also perform ad-hoc Database Administrator duties to ensure system efficiencies. They will assist with the resolution of incidents and development requests in accordance with defined Service Level Agreements and Operational Level Agreements as it relates to any databases and applications within the Group.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to: Assessing internal client needs and using tools to address the client needs in line with the Group strategy to develop efficient systems/applications/databases.Producing efficient code based on requirementsTroubleshooting, debugging, maintaining and improving existing softwareEnsuring that all data is intelligently stored and processedStructure company dataDefine indexing, procedures, functions and other parametersCheck and evaluate feasibility and costs of implementationPrepare design specifications and functional documentations for assigned projectsDevelop database tables and dictionaries.Ensure data quality and integrity in databasesIdentifying any issues and provide corrective measures as it relates to databases, including any troubleshooting where requiredTesting and evaluating solutions.Ensure availability of data to authorized users, including the assigning of users' rights.Pro-active ticket status updates and escalation/follow ups where applicableVerify resolution with end-users and resolve assigned Incidents and Service RequestsCollaborate with other work streams to troubleshoot and restore services in the event of outagesParticipate in Post-Mortem/Root Cause Analysis after each event to mitigate problem recurrenceReview records produced by team members and provide recommendations for improvement and enhance processes where applicable.Personal Attributes and Skills: Communicates effectivelyValues DrivenDetail orientatedTakes initiativeAnalyticalResilientDrives ResultsProblem SolverEducation and Experience Education: Minimum Grade12 qualification or equivalentInformation Systems or equivalent IT tertiary qualification (Advantageous)Software development in various relevant programming languages (.NET, C#, C++, ASP, VB, Core, Python, Devops, PHP, HTML, CSS, Java Script)Knowledge of Visual studio development standardsSQL Database programmingSQL Database AdministrationKnowledge of software development lifecycle and implementation standardsMicrosoft SQL Server, MySQL (advantage)We reserve the right not to make an appointment to any advertised position.
