Job Title: Technical Writer I Job Summary: The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining a range of documents and correspondence for USCIS. This role demands a keen eye for detail, the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely, and a strong understanding of the agency's mission and programs. Responsibilities Include: Editing correspondence and other materials for communication with customersOrganizing materials and completing writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminologyEnsuring that documents are written in accordance with the agency's style guide and editorial practicesEnsuring writing is easy to read and uses plain languageReviewing draft documents to ensure they are free of errorsFixing grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors in documents and correspondenceEnsuring accuracy of names, places, organizations, facts, dates, and statisticsEditing, standardizing, and making changes to material prepared by other writersSelecting charts, graphs, tables, and other non-textual material for inclusion within documentsCreating page layouts and placing textual and non-textual materialUnderstanding the agency's mission and programs to determine appropriate writing and editing practicesReading agency reports and documents to integrate writing and editing styleReviewing draft materials and recommending revisions in scope, format, content, and publishing methodsResearching topics and locating and contacting sources for document developmentWorking closely with other writers/editors to enhance document readability, conciseness, and styleMaintaining records and files of work and revisionsCollaborating with DHS and USCIS immigration professionals in drafting, reviewing, and editing written productsWriting and editing communications related to complex, potentially controversial policies, programs, or regulationsCoordinating the formal review of official written products before agency approvalInteracting with USCIS Executive Secretariat on using agency's formal concurrence proceduresPerforming research to ensure authoritative information development and communicationMaintaining awareness of USCIS programs and relevant activities for ongoing projectsRequired Qualifications and Skills: Associate's degree3+ years of experience in a technical writing position2+ years of experience in script writingProficiency in Microsoft Office Work Setting and Environment: Monday - Friday, normal working hoursWork is to be performed onsite in Camp Springs, MDHow FedWriters Will Compensate and Appreciate You: FedWriters offers team members the opportunity to gain a lasting impression in this fast-growing small business.
