SNR Material Planner
NATURE OF WORK:This function is responsible for work supporting Lear East London by planning, determining, controlling material requirements, and maintaining an inventory database. Incumbents in this classification control materials by studying inventory, and manufacturing schedules; conferring with production teams; developing inventory plans and priorities; monitoring inventory levels, lead times, lot sizes, and fill rates; evaluating planned and proposed material/process changes; identifying and resolving supplier and service provider problems; and developing solutions for launch projects in response to a JIS (just in Sequence) delivery requirement.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED(The following duties are typical for this classification. However, any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
The Materials Planning Section is responsible for the accuracy of the Materials Requisition Program (MRP) system as it relates to inventories, production planning, and order fulfillment. Involvement in the cycle counting process to maintain inventory accuracy. Identifies and implements opportunities to reduce transaction costs, freight expenses, and inventory levels. Establishes and maintains strong supply chain relationships. Maintains adequate inventories to support operations while minimizing inventory investments. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements of various agencies (e.g. Customs), ethical practices, and internal controls.
Early identification of potential slow moving, excess & obsolete inventory for review and disposition.
Oversees order fulfillment for internal and external customers.
Provides oversight for inbound/outbound logistics and inventory control.
Investigates causes of significant discrepancies in order to prevent reoccurrence.
Procurement of parts and materials to ensure timely delivery.
Works with suppliers and production employees to eliminate waste and damage to raw materials.
Manages inventory goals and measurements to drive high inventory turns & meet Month End financial targets.
Monitors and manages the MRP system in order to plan and purchase supplier raw materials.
Designs and implements a pull system such as the “Kanban-based” (just-in-time), shop floor scheduling system to meet customer need dates and minimize inventory.
Monitor & manages supplier stock levels & effect early escalation of potential risks, supported by continual recovery plan reporting.
Provides project (program) management support for the division, including coordinating, tracking, expediting and reporting on current inventory.
Gathers data for analysis regarding usage, quality, and price and manufacturing capability when requested.
Develops and maintains on going ethical supplier relationships that foster a desire to furnish new ideas, and promote cooperation with Lear.
Assists with the collection of and participation in resolving Lear claims (cost, time, tooling, rework, scrap, labor, sorting, and charges) against suppliers regarding non-conformance materials.
Participates in inter-departmental teams working towards continuous process improvement, elimination of wastes, and simultaneous engineering.
Participate and Audits physical inventory minimum twice/year.

EAST LONDON PLANT KEY DUTIES: (The following duties are key duties at the East London Plant to ensure effective control & results in the Material Planning function)
Releases:

Releases to be sent every Monday (or 1st working day of the week), to all suppliers

All significant volume changes, especially increases, must be investigated for validity
Open orders to be handed in with plausibility report for releases (Plausibility report is run by Supervisor once all releases are sent)
Investigate Requirements with No Orders as per list provided

Transport orders:

All suppliers Collections, excluding FCL, are scheduled on iNET

TO number to be loaded on the TO tracking sheet
Handle any queries from 4flow with regards to Transport Orders

FSN’s / LSN’s:

Once the container information is received from Sostmeier (LSN) or the Freight Forwarder (FSN) it gets captured for the Customs Officer to proceed with clearing instructions
Container packs with complete invoices and GRN’s are compiled for Stores
Each TO gets updated on the TO tracking sheet with the relevant container and vessel information this serves as a 2nd check to see if TO’s have been loaded onto a vessel; assist with resolving any finance queries; or any exception costs relating to a specific TO.
Supervisor updates the vessel docking information with the relevant info

GRN’s:

All TO’s for the previous week’s collections are GRN’ed into the system by the following Friday.

Other General Duties:
Run Reichweite or 10 Day Shortage Report weekly to ensure no stock outs;
Any risks are escalated as per the Escalation Process / and requests for PTA’s are raised if required as per PTA Request Process;
Perform tasks identified in the Engineering Change forums & Maintain Static Data settings for run out & new parts as identified in the Engineering Change Process;

Process & close out on Claims as identified by Exceptional TO Charges Report;
Investigate & close out on Finance Queries;
Prioritize & Sequence containers for Stores to off load;

Provide Open Orders for Month End projections, that are still to be collected;
Raise QN’s on suppliers for any discrepancies in Delivery process, Administrative errors and Quality Issues.
Run Vessel Information Report, to identify “old” GRN’s in TR & action as required.

Specific Duties:
Ensures that MRP is run on the 1st day of each week & that all releases are send to all suppliers;
Runs the following Reports/Transactions weekly:
Open Orders Report – to check Supplier/Planner Backlog
Vessel Info Report – to check Good in Transit not allocated to Vessels
iNET Exception Report – to check on iNET Network Performance
Reichweite Report – to check Potential Shortages

10 Day Report – run each Monday & Thursday, to issue to Management & Customer

Ad Hoc Reports/Analysis:
Update Vessel Docking Info – on Shared Drive in order for Receiving to Call off containers
Address Finance Queries
Month End ASN Value – submitted to Finance for Accrual
Month End List of TRN/GRN Details – to validate Open Orders v Actual Bookings
Create Trade Partnerships (TPs) for new suppliers or changes – with IT for upload to ICE Tool
Part Setting Evaluation Reports – to check MRP Settings & Allocations by Planner/Supplier

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Knowledge of central warehousing and distribution operations.

Knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances and rules.

Ability to identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.

Ability to monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
Ability to observe and explain policies and procedures to staff and vendors. Ability to use a computer.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, train and evaluate assigned staff.
Ability to identify and problem solve vendor issues.
Ability to estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Knowledge of data processing concepts related to material management and budget monitoring.
Knowledge of principles and practices of inventory control.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work in a pressurized environment.
Must be willing to work extended periods of time or varying shift hours.
Must be contactable after hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Tertiary qualification in a related field and 1-3 years’ experience in logistics and/or materials or a combination of education and experience equivalent.
