Introduction To designs and implement detailed solution of Linux compute & storage platform infrastructure and solutions within JSE, ensuring performance, availability and resiliency requirements are met as well as provide up to 3rd level BAU escalation support ensuring the JSE's current-state and future-state Linux based infrastructure technology solutions and innovations meet the standards of a world class tier 1 stock exchange in performance and supportability and can be delivered at price points that enable the JSE to offer competitive services in terms of cost, speed, reliability and related ease of market access for the clients
Results Delivery Provide specialist input into the departmental business plans and budgets to ensure resources/funding for delivery of projects for the year that support to business unit's and JSE's strategyCollaborate with other engineers when designing solutions to ensure they are reusable, quick to market, lower the total cost of ownership by saving JSE moneyEnsure project objectives meet the "fit for purpose" criteria to manage and control financial expenditure whilst mitigating potential risks that could affect trading due to system outagesTake responsibility for managing capital expenditure on a project to project basis ensuring all project specifications have been priced correctly so as to not exceed budget allocationsIdentify system optimisations and improvements in both technology and process needed in current Linux compute and storage infrastructure footprint, to ensure high performance and high availability of systemsPerform "trade off analysis" of alternative technologies when recommending solutions, ensuring they fit the enterprise architecture and business drivers (i.e. costs of supportability, resiliency and quality of solution) Stakeholder Relationship Management Manage and maintain strategic relationships with software and hardware vendors to ensure value delivery to internal stakeholders by staying informed on updates, upgrades, discontinuations of various vendor productszBuild relationships with key stakeholders i.e. enterprise architects, application solution architects, operational teams (design team), and business units who own the platforms to ensure design solutions meet their application needsGrow and maintain strategic JSE / Industry/ Global networks of thought leaders utilising social media platforms, attending and presenting at conferences and training interventionsLeverage relationships with vendors for knowledge base purposes, join relevant work groups and attend courses where possible to build strong software and hardware networks Process Management Manage own delivery against the strategic architectural roadmap delivery plan by planning and managing business projects as per set protocols and SLA'sMeasure and monitor risks to the business by conducting reviews on the resiliency of the solution design, ensuring monitoring and system alerts measures are included as part of the solution designAssume accountability for 3rd Level Escalation BAU support to resolve complex problems and provide 1 day a week routine BAU supportWrite functional requirement/ specification documents for technology solutions that meet the intended business requirements including relevant measurement criteria that determine successEnsure that architecture principles and technology standards are consistently applied and updated appropriately and stored in the Technology Reference ModelEnsure that all solution designs across all Linux infrastructure platforms going into production have supporting documentation on necessary controls/alerts, contain implementation guidelines, show alignment to the intended operational processes and procedures that will ensure operational readiness at time of handoverEnsure all subsequent reported changes to the in-production Linux Infrastructure designs are captured and that documentation of present state designs are updated with a validation of adequacy of solution design controls and alertsTake accountability for ensuring the documentation of the Technology Reference Models (TRM) of the present and future state Linux technology infrastructure architecture as well as design and implementation of the plans to transition to the future state architecture are updated and included in the TRMConduct market research prior to making recommendations on compute products, services, protocols and standards in support of the compute procurement and development efforts Perform compute analysis to ensure the design solution meets business requirements by developing and deploying tests and providing statistics and reports measuring performance and effectiveness of solutionIdentify system optimisations and improvements in both technology and processes that are needed in the currentLinux compute and storage infrastructure to ensure high performance and high availability of systems Troubleshoot problems with team members to identify root cause system inefficiencies to ascertain best route of action (i.e. system problem or change in environment due to increased trading)Collaborate with other subject matter experts on critical IT projects to ensure that compute issues are addressed throughout the whole project life cycle and measure the impact on business of solution by reviewing test resultsTake a leadership role in infrastructure projects to design and engineer large scale implementationsAnalyse existing compute structures in order to define, design and achieve simplified, modern, application-focused compute architecture's that meet long and short term goals of JSETake accountability to ensure disaster recovery, BCP (Business Continuity Planning) and security measures are taken into consideration in all solution design processes and that support documentation is provided Maintain all existing and "to be" compute artefacts in the Enterprise Architecture Tool Self-Management Improve personal capability and professional growth relating to field of expertise, in line with JSE objectives by discussing development needs and proposed solutions with managementRemain current on emerging technologies via professional groups, trade magazines, internal andexternal training, independent research and study, and other avenues available.Up skill team and other professionals by sharing knowledge and research results to minimise "key man" dependencies Apply thought leadership in use of Linux compute platforms by increasing technical knowledge base by networking, self study, to ensure industry best
