The Registered Ultrasound Technologist performs and supervises all activities of ultrasound procedures and diagnosticradiology activities at a technical level.The Technologist assumes responsibilities for designated areas orprocedures as directed by the Director of Radiology and/or OperationsManagers.
The Registered Ultrasound Technologist secures radiology studies ordered to assist physicians in makingcorrect diagnosis; handles all radiology equipment and supplies; operatesequipment properly; and reports equipment maintenance needs for assigned area. Education
Must be a graduatefrom an accredited School of Diagnostic Sonography.
License
Must beregistered by the AmericanRegistry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
Certification
Must complete BCLS certification by the end of positionorientation; must maintain current BCLS certification.
Experience
Experienceas a Registered Ultrasound Technologist (Sonographer) required. Experience in vascular ultrasound and as a Radiological Technologist preferred. Must maintaina minimum of 30 CMEsfor the current triennium period in accordance with ARDMS requirements.
Physical Demands
Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequentrequirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travelto another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amountof force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects,including the human body. Employee isresponsible for safely moving, lifting and handling all supplies, equipmentand patients, with assistance, up to 350 pounds. Safe lifting practice isexpected in all areas of job performance and employees are responsible torequest help whenever needed, regardless of the weight, using availableassistance, i.e. lifting devices or additional staff.
Work involves using many physical motions in performing dailywork activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions:substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operatingstandard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound atnormal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and theability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shiftgaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that arecloser to compare data at close vision.
Must beable to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing unduefatigue. Must be able to work schedulesassigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according tothe needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.
Mental Demands
Must demonstrate keenmental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information inperson and by telephone. Mustdemonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conduciveto dealing with high stress levels.Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task incomplex situations is required. Must have the ability tomaintaincollaborative andrespectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizationsMust possess the ability to function in a clinical capacity and possessskills to perform functions and duties as required by the specialty area andunderstand that errors and poor image quality may have serious consequencesfor patients. Must demonstratesupervisory skills and knowledge for supervision of other disciplines working onthe same team. Must possess skills toproblem solve patient care issues and/or technical issues with physicians. Must demonstrates appropriate clinicaljudgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
Special Demands
Mustpossess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge andability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other officetechnology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must possess ability tohelp ensure the departmentmeets JCAHO, ARRT and ACR standards.
