Packhouse Extension Officer – Fruit Industry – Western Cape

The work area for this job range from Worcester (De Doorns) right through to the Mosselbay area.
Job purpose: To establish a communication link between the packhouse, farm & marketing, and provide information to the packhouses and producers in order to improve logistics, decision making and maximize efficiency. The successful candidate will report to the General Manager – South Packhouses.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS Ensure the accuracy on Crop estimates (size, packout, etc) and timely communication of updates.Liase with packhouse and farms with regards to packhouse capacity and optimising delivery vs packing.Provide detailed information on expected fruit on both internal and external quality.Verify and compile detailed reporting on grower phytosanitary status, MRL's and spray programs for optimal target market allocations (Orchard rating).Liase with scouts/agricultural managers regularly for updates and changes in pest activity and fruit condition.Provide a consolidated plan for all variety volumes to packhouses for operations and marketing efficiencies.Liase with growers on picking programs to ensure batching approach to deliveries and timings so as to avoid marginal deliveries and excessive run exchanges.Responsible for maintaining good quality relationships with growers, marketing and packhouse operational teams.Ensure that up to date and changes in industry specifications on Phyto/MRL list are incorporated.COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS Commercial awareness and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and organisational skills.Eye for detail.Strong interpersonal skills.Effective handling of detailed information and consistent attention to detail.Analytical and numerical abilities are crucial.REQUIREMENTS National Diploma or BSc Agriculture degree.Must have at least two years' experience in citrus/Stonefruit production.Must be physically fit and be comfortable working outside in various weather conditions.Valid driver's license and reliable transport..Knowledge of agricultural processes and systems, equipment and technologies.Must be able to function as part of a team.EMAIL CV IN WORD FORMAT: ******
