Pay R35000 - R40000 a month Job type Full-time Location Full job descriptionThe RoleReporting to Head of Food & Coffee, the Food Technologist ensures that all food and drink complies with the mission statement, the law, and food safety requirements, in company stores and kitchen hubs.The role holder will do this through establishing, maintaining, reviewing and continuously improving all systems, processes and standards required for food safety and due diligence, as well as building strong relationships with the local and global teams.They will support the Food & Coffee team in managing the supply base on quality issues and provide guidance and advice on food safety and quality issues in shop and the hub kitchen operations.It involves advising shops, the Hub kitchens, operations team, and the Leadership Team on quality issues. The role holder will also manage the quality performance of the supply base, building strong relationships with the equivalent technical teams. It requires not only a high level of knowledge of food technology but also a clear understanding of the business mission statement to ensure that all products meet the standards.The role will be required to manage the Business Food Safety, Technical Strategy, and to work with the Global Food Technical team for its adaptation and supporting its delivery across all current and future markets.RESPONSIBILITIESTechnical StrategyDevelop and maintain the Business Food Technical Strategy with the Global Food Technical Team's guidanceResponsible for the adaptation and implementation of the strategy in all current and future markets in South AfricaEnsure all food complies with our mission statement and is produced and sold safely, legally and at the highest qualityProduct ManagementManage the specification system ensuring that all ingredients have up to date specifications which are easily accessibleManage the shelf life process and ensuring that shelf life for all new ingredients has been agreed prior to launchEnsure information is available to customers with regard to nutritional and allergy informationGuide the food and drink suppliers on the running of factory and shelf life trials and first productionsInterpret external information so that the business can comply with relevant guidelinesSupport Food team on ingredient / process queriesSafetyIdentify opportunities for the safety agenda to be delivered effectively. Identify any developments or future activities that may impact the safety performance of the businessPropose, develop and write progressive policies and standards in line with the overall safety agendaUtilise data systems that relate to safety performance and analyse to enable performance improvementsUse quantitative and qualitative data, along with subjective and objective opinions and observations to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement in safety performanceUndertake & review risk assessments (incl. fire)Periodically conduct the following reactive safety tasks:Foreign body complaints investigationAllegation of food poisoning investigationInsurance claim investigationRespond to support requests in relation to any safety mattersReview the type and amount of foreign bodies received in the business and oversee any reduction programmes put into placeEnsure Quality Improvement Programmes are in place with suppliersManage 3rd party suppliers auditing within the groupChampion quality improvements and drive them forward with the support of the food teamEnsure that there is a robust procedure for product recalls/checks, which are clearly communicated to all relevant parties through the appropriate channelsLegal RequirementsRemain up to date with legal changes affecting the business and manage the flow of that information into the business, ensuring that stores and kitchens comply within the relevant timescalesOversee the artwork approval process and provide legal guidance for all product packaging artworkEnsure that all food-related printed material in the company is factually correct and meets legal guidelinesManage the business relationship with the Food Standards Agency and liaising with them on any projects or issuesBusiness requirementsMaintaining regular contact with the Global Food Technical Director, sharing progress made on key areasAssist in preparing for the weekly food meetingAssist in presentations as required i.e. Test Shop/ Foodie MeetingsManage multiple projects and tasks with changing prioritiesSkills and experienceFood technology qualificationAt least 5 years' experience in food technical roles in the F&B sectorFood tech experience in auditing, essentialExperience in food safety, 3-5 years essentialIn depth knowledge of additives and food chemistryGood experience in food and beverage production or manufacturingBelief in and passion for brand valuesAbility to resolve issues quickly and effectivelyAbility to build good working relationships internally and externallyJob Type: Full-timeApplication Question(s):Where have you gained Food Tech experience?What Food Tech (or relevant) qualification have you completed?Which SA food safety regulators are you familiar with?#J-18808-Ljbffr
