News24 is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic digital-savvy food editor with a passion for food, restaurants and cooking. This is a job for an experienced journalist with a thorough knowledge of the food industry, especially in the South African context.
Job outputs Create, plan, implement and manage the content strategy, vision and guidelines for News24 Food.Finetune an editorial voice and personality that speaks to South Africans.Create and drive a strategy to package food content to engage and inform the target audience.Manage and motivate a team of content creators as well as briefing and coordinating with freelance contributors.Liaise with the audience engagement editor, marketing and product teams to ensure that subscription targets are met.Ensure that SEO best practices are applied throughout the site.Analyse traffic stats and other data to continuously assess and achieve targets.Skills and competencies Excellent understanding of and passion for the South African food industry.A sound understanding of digital publishing and the subscription business.Excellent writing and copy-editing skills.Proven experience in managing and motivating a team of writers, including setting KPAs, measurable targets and recruiting new staff.Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, contributors, content providers, and product managers.Knowledge of social media management, including best practices.Strong communication and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and to prioritise workload.An extensive network of foodies, chefs and other professionals in the industry.Respect for high standards of journalistic ethics.Qualifications and experience At least five years of editorial experience in food publishing, including exposure to and a demonstrable knowledge of the digital environment.Tertiary qualification in Journalism, Food Science or a related field, or equivalent years of experience.Given the employment equity policy of Media24, preference will be given to suitable candidates from the designated groups.
