PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Planning of fibre network including layout, design and optimization using relevant
technology stack. Interaction with all stakeholders, role players and authorities in the design and approvals
process throughout the life cycle of the network planning and completion. Job Functions Communications Industries Telecommunications Specification Key Responsibility Areas:
1. Conducting Site Surveys for:
• Underground Optical Fibre Routes
• Aerial Optical Fibre Routes
2. Developing Basic designs for:
• Underground Optical Fibre Routes
• Aerial Optical Fibre Routes
3. Deriving a Bill of Material from the Design
4. Development of preliminary Site Survey Reports, drawings and layouts using Google Earth, GIS and CADD
Programs for use in the development of a Business Case for project approvals
5. Submission of:
• Wayleaves Applications (longitudinal and transversal)
• Registration of servitudes, rezoning applications and departures from restrictions
• And Infrastructure and Site sharing applications, to local authorities and 3rd parties
6. Engagements with stakeholders and follow up meetings with local authorities
7. Detailed designs on CADD, GIS, OSP Insight or other related programs for:
• Underground Duct Reticulation, allocation of manholes, joints, splitters, and determination of
fibre cable sizes
• Overhead Plant and Reticulation, allocation of poles, joints, splitters, and determination of fibre
cable sizes
8. Facilitation of Project Kick off Meetings, and regular project progress meetings
9. Tracking of project progress by means of Project Management tools.
10. Manage the planning team ensuring team effectiveness and performance standard.
11. Oversee and manage the planning process. Requirements The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills: -
• 3 to 4 years’ experience with fibre optic planning
• Minimum 2 year’s Project Management experience
• Valid driver’s license and own transport
• Professional knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, schemes, policies and guidelines
• Excellent research skills
• Excellent organisation skills i.e. able to plan, prioritise, co-ordinate and control.
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to work quickly and under pressure
• Problem-solving skills
• Time management skills
• Team player
• Communication skills (written and verbal)
Qualifications
• Matric
• An Urban/Town and Regional Planning degree or relevant 3-year qualification or
