Requirements
An Honours degree in Accounting, Financial Management or similar.
A registered Accountant with a recognised accounting body such as ACCA/CIA/CIMA/SAIBA/SAICA/SAIPA or similar.
Ten years relevant experience of which five should be in a managerial position.
Seven years proven exposure in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, management reports and the management of financial systems.
A high level of communication efficiency and effectiveness
Higher education sector experience would be an advantage.
Duties
Strategic direction and alignment to the division
Manage the general ledger and assets of the University as well as ensuring compliance with the International Financial Reporting Standards.
Prepare the Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
Ensure the effective and efficient management of the division?s finances and resources
Implement the Financial Business Partner strategy in the University.
Design and maintain effective budget and forecast models as well ensure the implementation of an effective budget management policy.
Supervise the preparation of annual budgets and present them to the Finance Committee of Council and Council.
Manage the internal and external audit processes.
Assume responsibility for the correct functioning of all accounting and reporting systems in collaboration with the IT team.
Promote sound institutional governance, participate in required governance structures and serve as member on required forums.
Ensure compliance to the tax legislation for the university and all its subsidiaries and associates.
Manage financial risks and the portfolio?s risks.
Perform financial analysis and management in respect of researchers? accounts and cost centres
Foster and maintain strategic alliances with both internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with University policies and managing both Human and Financial Resources within the directorate.
Undertake continuous financial reporting to the Management Executive Committee, the Finance Committee of Council and the Audit and Risk Committee of Council.
Oversee staff development and management (including recruitment, performance management, development, reward and retention).
