A Cloud Engineer is focused on performing a number of activities on a daily basis and will be involved in the day to day activities in cloud management.These responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: capacity and availability monitoring andresponse, alert management and filtering, management of service requests and client escalations, risk and release management of patches and applications and automated deployment and configurationmanagement using infrastructure-as-code and source code management tools.The ideal candidate will also need to demonstrate excellent knowledge of Cloud operations and managing large-scale infrastructure including experience in systems automation, orchestration, deployment, andimplementation.The day to day activities includes the following:Ensuring the level of fault tolerance on the basis of business needsMonitoring and managing billing and cost optimization processesMonitoring performance and availability of the applications on the AWS, Azure & other in-housevirtualisation platformsOptimization of the environment for ensuring maximum performanceIdentification of potential issues on the given application deploymentProvisioning cloud resources and managing implementation automationIdentifying the performance of bottlenecks and implementing the remediesManaging disaster recovery processes and procedures for backupsImplementation and management of security policiesEnsuring access controls and data integrity while using the AWS platformDeploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault tolerant systems in AWS and/or Azure.Working closely with other functional area engineering resources to orientate & educate on newlyadopted processes and methodologiesWorking closely with Cloud DevOps Engineering to build environments using automation andconfiguration management toolsA background in traditional system operations, including, but not limited to: application, virtualisation,server, storage and network security is a requirement.An interest in and studying towards an industry recognized DevOps certification is an advantage.The role will report to the Head of Cloud Engineering.Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesResponsible and accountable for maintaining and operating all infrastructure hardware, operatingsystems and services.Configuration management of operating systems and applications, ensuring standards are defined andmanaged using the necessary tools providedResponsible and accountable for the monitoring and alerting of all relevant infrastructure.Managing risk and release through automation of configuration management, patch management, andversion control.Identification of and action on risks that could impact the security, stability or availability of services.Ownership of critical issues escalated to the team from any number of sources across the organization.Raise awareness to line managers about potential issues arising from, but not limited to, deliveryimpediments on current projects, risks affecting services, issues with services, networks or systems onwhich the business unit relies.RequirementsExperience and proven success in this area of the ICT sectorRelevant tertiary qualification (Degree or Diploma)AWS or Azure SysOps CertificationVMWare VCP certOperating System Windows, LinuxDatabase SQL Server, MySQL / pgSQLInfrastructure-as-Code - Hashicorp suiteWorking knowledge of Shell/Bash scriptsExperience working with Agile teamsGood knowledge of networking and Service Provider InfrastructureShould you not receive a response from us within one week of your application, your application has unfortunately not been successful.
