This person will be responsible for assessing and advising on Discovery Bank profitability, product and risk-based initiatives using knowledge of actuarial, statistical, commercial and market principles. We are looking for an intelligent, self-driven person who has a passion for problem solving and who enjoys using business, actuarial and statistical knowledge to drive innovation. This individual should enjoy finding opportunity and value in a complex environment through both strategic business awareness as well as innovation in the use of analytics to generate true business value.Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to• Develop a deep understanding of the business, profitability drivers and levers to be able to quickly inform decisions and identify areas that need to be interrogated.• Have ultimate responsibility for the strategy and management of key profitability, revenue, and product initiatives.• Demonstrate thought leadership in product design, product development and the use of analytics in these areas.• Use a combination of strategic thinking and analytics to identify innovative ways to drive product decisions and to identify business opportunities.• Have ultimate responsibility for key pricing models, LTV and VNB models, AoS analysis and business performance tracking.• Clearly identify key issues and propose a series of analyses and reasoning that converts business complexity into simple, high valued recommendations.• Present recommendations in a coherent and compelling way to a range of external and internal stakeholders, including Exco members.Education and Experience• Qualified actuary• At least 3 years' business experience, banking experience advantageous.• Data Science experience is beneficial.• Experience in pricing products, setting assumptions and modelling risk.• A proven record of innovation, delivery and performance.Technical skills or knowledge• Strong SQL ability• Python skills advantageous• Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills• Strong ability to price products and to understand and quantify risk• Ability to understand and generate VNB and EV measures• Ability to think creatively and pursue innovative, alternative approaches• Ability to deal with complexity, ambiguity and frequent change• Keen interest in business dynamics and strategic challenges• Sophisticated written and verbal communication skills• High level of attention to detail• Passion for personal development and growth, with a high learning potential• Commitment to excellence and high-quality delivery• High level of attention to detail• Passion for personal development and growth, with a high learning potential• Commitment to excellence and high-quality deliveryEMPLOYMENT EQUITYThe Company's approved Employment Equity Plan and Targets will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
