Seeking a self-driven Water Quality Management Specialist to perform highly technical and professional work related to implementing water quality management programs and specializes in collection and analysis projects in managing and monitoring potable water and wastewater resources for the County.
Protecting public health and the environment is a top priority in Pinellas County Utilities.The Water Quality Division manages numerous water quality programs designed to protect the quality of our water and places the highest value on the quality and reliability of our products and services, including compliance with strict regulatory standards.
The Industrial Pretreatment Program, the Grease Management Program, Wastewater Regulatory Monitoring and Sampling Program, and the Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) project, assure protection of waterways by controlling wastewater discharge from industry and non-domestic sources to the municipal sewer collection systems and treatment facilities; sampling and monitoring of the wastewater discharge; and sampling and reporting for sanitary sewer overflows.
Water Quality Monitoring also oversees the Drinking Water Compliance and Flushing Programs and Customer Complaint Response.What Will You Do?Position Specific TasksSampling activities for potable water, wastewater, surface water or groundwater projects to ensure regulatory compliance.Perform data review to assure compliance with regulatory and QA/QC requirements for all project related work.Recommend corrective actions to resolve customer water quality conditions identified from monitoring, sampling and lab data.Assist with the coordination of unidirectional flushing activities and system maintenance chlorination conversion.Assist with the development of ordinance revisions.Maintain knowledge of existing local, state or federal rules and regulations.Plan, schedule, coordinate, and conduct inspections with food service establishments.Ability to conduct Industrial User inspections on non-domestic waste users to assure protection of collection system and treatment plants and assure compliance with sewer use ordinance.Initiate enforcement actions for non-compliance with monitoring and sampling requirements, or permit conditions.Assist in drafting reports for regulatory agency submittal.Sample collections in all disciplines listed above, including field analysis, equipment calibration, maintenance and cleaning.What Do You Need?Experience – Professional experience in field water quality monitoring.Education:Environmental, physical, natural or biological science or related fieldAt least 4 years as described above.Associate's degree as described above, and at least 2 years of experience as described above.Bachelor's or higher-level degree as described above.Valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.Assignment to work adjusted shift work (including a rotating second shift) and standby to ensure continual operation.Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.Highly DesirableFWPCOA/FIPA Industrial Pretreatment Certification, Class C.FIPA FOG I certification.State of Florida Class 1 Distribution System Operator's License.Strong technical and analytical aptitude.Strong computer skills including GIS, work management systems, etc.Familiarization with environmental rules and regulations.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work in a team environment.Ability to lead by example and show a positive attitude.Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing work demands.Why choose Pinellas County?When you join Pinellas County, you're not just taking on a job—you're investing in your future.
