Job Title: Sustainability Coordinator - PietermaritzburgLocation: KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg | Deadline: May 22, 2025Key Accountabilities and Outputs:Track and Reduce GHG Emissions (Scopes 1 & 2):Develop and maintain an up-to-date GHG emissions inventory in accordance with the GHG Protocol.Identify key emission sources across operations and propose reduction strategies.Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to optimize fuel and electricity consumption.Support carbon footprint reporting and work towards setting and achieving emission reduction targets.Energy Audits and Energy Efficiency Improvements:Conduct regular on-site energy audits to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.Coordinate the implementation of energy-saving technologies or practices (e.g., LED retrofitting, VSDs).Monitor and report on energy performance indicators (EnPIs) and track improvements.Engage with external specialists and suppliers to stay informed about innovative energy solutions.Monitor and Reduce Water Usage Across Operations:Perform water usage assessments and identify high-consumption areas within the facility.Work with relevant departments to implement water-saving initiatives (e.g., recycling systems, leak detection).Track and analyze water usage trends and generate reports to inform decision-making.Promote water stewardship awareness among employees through campaigns and training.Environmental Data Collection and Reporting:Collect, validate, and consolidate environmental data from various departments (energy, water, emissions).Prepare monthly and quarterly environmental performance reports for internal stakeholders.Ensure data aligns with external reporting requirements (e.g., sustainability reports, government submissions).Maintain accurate records to support compliance, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.Internal Audit:Plan, participate in, and conduct internal audits.Identify non-conformities, risks, and improvement opportunities; follow up on corrective actions.Requirements:Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, energy management, environmental engineering, or a related field, with an equivalent qualification.Knowledge of South African environmental legislation and compliance requirements.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Knowledge of energy efficiency or renewable energy technologies.Advantageous Certifications:ISO 14001 / ISO 9001 / ISO 50001 standards or related.Internal environmental auditing certification.
