PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The purpose of this role is to identify, measure, monitor and report on existing and/or emerging market and liquidity risks within the Group. As a second line risk management role the job requires interaction with first line risk managers in order to understand, and where necessary challenge, strategies and exposures. Furthermore, the role requires the production of accurate and timely reporting to various stakeholders including first line risk managers and various governance committees.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities will be varied and include the following critical performance areas:
Daily reporting of market and liquidity risk exposures within the business
Daily verification of risk-based P&L estimations against actual P&L
Sourcing data and calculating risk metrics for market and liquidity risk reporting
Run daily/weekly reports, and improve thereon
Investigate and comment on daily/ weekly changes in risk metrics
Check accuracy and reasonability of the data loaded into the trading system (will require using Reuters and Bloomberg)
Respond to ad hoc requests from internal clients
Map and streamline processes to retrieve information effectively and efficiently
Communicate risk positions to stakeholders
Run and report on quarterly/ ad hoc stress testing and scenario analysis
Developing a deep understanding of the products/instruments giving rise to market/ liquidity risk on the balance sheet
Pro-actively looking for risks, market developments and control issues
Contribute to projects
Managing own career by being accountable for one’s behaviour, performance and development

REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Quantitative Degree or commerce degree with strong evidence of quantitative ability, post graduate degree advantageous
CFA, PRM/ FRM advantageous
Programming experience advantageous
At least 2 - 4 years’ experience. A role connected to treasury environment, preferably in a bank’s market or liquidity risk area
Exposure to treasury products, preferably equities, interest rate products, and foreign exchange products
Implementing and delivering reporting and governance requirements
Exposure to an insurer’s and/or asset manager’s product set, risk exposures and reporting processes
Exposure to non-linear instruments

Knowledge:
Financial instruments, their valuation and Greeks
Functioning of SA financial markets

Job Related Skills:
Strong communication skills, written and verbal
Strong Excel skills are a necessity and VBA will be advantageous
