We require the services of a site supervisor/construction manager for a switchgear replacement project in the Northam/Thabazimbi Area. The project is predominantly medium voltage (MV 11000V) and it is vital that the candidate has had:- Medium Voltage switchgear experience including the installation and testing of MV switchgear including protection relays- Medium voltage cabling including terminations (XLPE & PILCSWA) and cable joints. Testing of MV cables is also important.- Power Factor correction experience including installation of power and control cables.- Design of MV systems and commissioning will be an advantage.- Supervision of cable racking and cable racking support systems.- Earthing and earth mats.- Management of installation contractors.- Have had experience in mining (surface) and underground would be an advantage.It is envisaged that the project will be complete towards the end of 2020. The first phase of the work will be complete by 31 December 2020 and may/will include shutdown work during the December 2020 shutdown between Christmas and New Year.We are initially looking for a candidate to complete Phase 1 however if the candidate is a good fit with what we are looking for we would certainly look at extending the work for the other phases. The candidate should have a minimum of fifteen (15) years or more of medium voltage switchgear and cabling construction and experience. The candidate needs to have a recognised qualification electrical qualification N5 or N6 as a minimum but it would be better if he has a technician Diploma qualification.Qualities:The personal qualities that are important include:- The ability to uphold Consultings reputation for professionalism, efficiency and quality work at all times.- Being able to work as a team player.- A keen eye for attention to detail with good organisational skills.- The ability to maintain good Client professional relationships at all times.- Good communication skills both verbal and written. Afrikaans is important in the mining environment.- Be computer literate.- Must be of sober habits.- Logical thinker able to work under pressure and have the ability to offer well thought-out solutions to problems that may arise.- Must be able to take instruction from Engineers and carry them out efficiently and professionally.Responsibilities:The construction manager shall be delegated amongst other things with the following responsibility:Assist the Consulting head office engineering team with information gathering (Identify existing cables, cable runs, loads, cable routes, installed switchgear and protection, PFC equipment, cabling and termination auxiliary power supplies etc)Provide construction management supervision during the construction phase of a contract to ensure that the installation meets with all the Statutory and Clients requirementsEnsure that all the Mines required safety measures are adhered to and maintained during the execution of the works.Ensure that the Contractor adheres to the required "Lock-out" proceduresIt is a switchgear replacement contract with MV cables, joint and the understating of phasing out and testing cables is important.Coordinate the deliveries of "free-issue" materials and oversee the offloading of and installation of equipmentEnsure that the installation contractor implements appropriate procedures and systems for the receipt and inspection of "free-issue" materialsEnsure that the installation contractor maintains appropriate controls for the issue of materialsLiaison and coordination of construction activities and clarification of any technical queries arising from construction drawings or specificationsMonitoring and reporting contractor performance against contractual program obligationsApprove the contractors Quality Assurance PlanInspect completed installation modules applicable to the works and sign-off the contractors quality assurance documentation. Issue non-conformance reports where appropriate.Attend weekly construction progress meetings (on behalf of the Company) with the Client. Monitor and update the contractors weekly progress and ensure that appropriate corrective action is taken where program key dates have not been met.Ensure that there is an accurate record of when access was planned verses the date when actual access was received and issue early warnings when these dates are not met by other parties.Issue Site Variation Requests (SVRs) in accordance with Companys procedures. There must be no instruction given to any contractor without formal approval from head-office.Assist in the final measurement and evaluation of all monthly claims and for any additional work arising during the course of the project.Provide a full set of red-line drawings on completion of the project.Work in accordance with site approved hours (45 Hrs/week). Any change or time over this must first be communicated in writing and approved by both the Clients construction manager and head-office.Complete a daily Diary per Company format over the entire duration of the project.We will offer a market related salary aligned to experience and qualification. It could be an hourly rate or monthly plus approved over-time. The rate would be R350 R440/Hr depending on qualifications and experience and allow for 180 Hrs per month.Accommodation and meals will be provided. He will live predominantly in Northam/Thabazimbi area needed immediately.We plan to supply the Candidate with a bakkie (Ford extended cab for company use) he can use it to travel home (Johannesburg Area) and back to the mine on weekends (usually every second week). Private use over and above this would need to be approved.PPE will be supplied by the company.A lap top will be provided.Cell phone allowance of R1000 per month.No pension or medical aid would be paid.We would look at 6 months initially (Phase 1) and if the candidate is a good ambassador for the company would seriously look at extending it beyond to 2020.Age group range (35 50 max)Start date as soon possible (immediately)Length of contract from start date (now) to Nov/December
