Senior Claims Handler
Role based in Durban
This position involves the co-ordinating, processing and management of claims. The Claims Technician is responsible for ensuring claims are handled professionally, accurately and swiftly in order to uphold our high standard of service levels to our clients. The Claims Technician reports to the Claims Manager and is responsible for providing effective management and processing of claims. Providing a professional claims service is critical to the business as claims servicing is considered the “shop window’ to our business. The successful execution of the incumbent’s duty will ensure that our high standards and service levels are maintained at all times.
Key Objectives of the Job
Business Development:
Support proposal and tendering where required.
Perform administrative functions where required
Claims Management:
Provide claims management to ensure deadlines are maintained and service levels uphold. This will include inter alia the following responsibilities;
Receipting notification of all claims as per allotment
Confirming notification of claim to relevant party/ies
Capturing the claim
Creation of claim file
Requesting various information and documentation to support the claim
Appointment of Assessors/Surveyors
Maintaining a good relationship with Brokers and Assessors/Surveyors
Notifying Insurers and Reinsurers of claims
Liaising with Brokers, Insurers and Assessors
Analysing the claim and documentation submitted
Application of technical knowledge to the claim
Verifying claims fall within the ambit of the cover
Preparing claim adjustments
Loading allocation for authorisation
Management of claims diary
General claims administrative functions including monthly reports
Monitoring and reporting of claims stats and trends
Initiate and set up meetings with Senior Management to discuss complex claims or claims that will be rejected
Oversight and management of recoveries
Client Management:
Client relationship management
Compliance Management:
Comply with all statutory and company regulations to protect clients and business interests
Competency Requirements of the Job
Required Technical knowledge and skills:
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
Knowledge of Short Term Insurance, Marine /GIT field of insurance
Knowledge of shipping documentation associated with the freight industry including International Trade
Knowledge of the FAIS Act and other legislation/Acts that govern the short term insurance industry
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
Strong numeric ability
Ability to analyse and interpret contracts in the supply chain
Essential qualifications:
Matric
FAIS regulatory exams (RE1 for reps)
Preferred qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates that have a recognised INSETA qualification in the short term insurance industry
Required job related experience:
Minimum -5 -7 years’ experience in a short term insurance, preferably Marine/Goods In Transit claims environment
