Your role in a nutshell:
You will form part of the global Financial Crime team and will be reporting to the Investigations Manager in Cape Town, South Africa.
You’ll be involved in investigating and preventing financial crimes like fraud, money laundering and account takeovers from occurring on Luno. You’ll be working with Law enforcement agencies, banks, payment partners and your team to detect, investigate and prevent abuse by Luno customers.
You’ll be working closely with other Financial Crime team members across the world to help support cross-department operational initiatives to detect and prevent abuse. You will work in a fast paced environment, collaborating with other business units, including Engineering, Product and Legal teams, servicing the business on an international level together with the teams from South East Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA.
Your mission will involve:
Supporting our Investigations Manager with the planning and oversight of day to day operational team tasks
Reporting on and presenting periodic data including progress reports, SLA’s and typologies.
Drive comprehensive investigations into fraud, money laundering and account takeovers to completion;
Liaise between various internal and external stakeholders including legal, law enforcement, investigators, banks and victims;
Conduct root cause analyses of incidents in order to develop strategies to prevent recurrences;
Play a key role in the development of policies, procedures and tools;
Be a point of escalation for financial crime investigations;
Proactively identify and monitor fraud patterns;
Manage time sensitive workflows across competing priorities;
Interact with customers to understand unusual account activity;
Identify areas of improvement in Luno’s products to ensure our continued customer security;
Work with a high degree of independence;
Keep detailed logs of incidents and prepare regular and ad-hoc reports;
Manage time sensitive workflows across competing priorities;
Mentoring and/or training of junior team members
The ideal Lunaut for this role:
A BA, BSc BComm or other relevant qualification from an accredited college/university in Criminal Justice, Law, International Relations, Criminology, finance, or similar field.
3-5 years’ relevant work experience (involving money laundering, fraud and / or account takeovers)
Experience investigating complex financial crimes
A can do, get things done attitude
An existing, valid work permit for South Africa, if you’re not a South African citizen
Attention to detail, strong sense of responsibility and very high level of integrity
Ability to take charge in critical situations and work on resolving problems
You will especially get noticed if you have
Have proven experience in a financial crime or forensic related role within a financial services, retail or a consulting environment;
A natural inclination to spot anything out of the ordinary
Have relevant industry certifications (CAMS, CFE, CFCS, CRCM)
Are familiar with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
