Senior Accountant/Rosebank, Johannesburg Preparation of management accounts and reports Supervision and coaching of junior finance team members Oversight of the premium receipt allocation process Approval of:Expense paymentsBank transfersJournalsGeneral ledger account reconciliations and analysis Management of reinsurance and sundry debtor and creditor accounts, including collections and payments Preparation of:Cashbooks and input into the General LedgerBank reconciliationsGeneral ledger journalsGeneral ledger account reconciliations and analysis Cash flow management, including EFT transfers Fixed Asset Register maintenance and accounting Assist with Budgets and Forecasts Assist in completion of year end packs Participate in team meetings and contribute to the discussions and decisions of the team Maintain good relationships with all stakeholders Resolve queries and complaints Ad hoc accounting investigations and tasks, including:Assist in implementing new IFRS project ( IFRS 17)Assist in the implementation of a new line of business system and integration to the accounting package Qualifications, Experience and Skills At least 10 years experience in a Finance Department in a similar role including:Accounting in a manual unstructured environmentFinancial and management accounting, including budgeting and variance analysisKnowledge of accounting packagesKnowledge of systems and controlsUnderstanding of Line of business systems and their integration into the accounting system Group Risk or Life Insurance industry experience will be preferable: Technical Insurance accounting Reinsurance accounting and administration Accounting for foreign countries with exposure to foreign currency transactions and translations Supervision experience will be preferable B Comm Accounting degree or equivalent will be preferable PC Skills (Advanced Excel, Outlook, Word) Experience using an accounting system Pastel, Great Plains preferable Report writing Good planning and organisational skills Good interpersonal and communication skills Analytical and problem-solving skills Time management - Ability to meet deadlines Ability to engage with various stakeholders
