You are invited to apply for a research scientist post based at the Centre for Lung Infection and Immunity(CLII), Department of Medicine, University of Cape Town. The CLII has an exemplary track record of high-quality publications and research ( Thus, we will only consider candidates witha strong research track record.The project will focus on understanding the biology of infectiousness and transmission of tuberculosis withinthe community. Different biological samples will be used for host and bacterial proteomic and transcriptomicanalysis. These data will be combined with other clinical parameters to identify a biosignature associated withtuberculosis infectiousness.
Minimum Requirements:
• An MSc or PhD degree in biomedical field with at least two years of bioinformatics experience.A degree in bioinformatics or equivalent qualification.Thorough knowledge and experience in command line and any of the following (or similar): R, Python
(biopython), Perl (bioperl) or C.Experience with RNA/DNA/protein sequence analysis, machine learning and biostatistics (e.g., Cox
regression).Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).Experience in technical report writing.Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Managing a research project.
Developing and writing research proposals.
Performing genomic sequence and other OMIC analyses: from raw data quality checks and data cleaning
to differential expression (and similar analyses for DNA and protein).
To assist in the biostatistical analyses of other projects within the Centre.
