Regional Data Protection Advisor

Collaborate with the Group to ensure compliance with evolving privacy standards, supporting the Chief Data Protection Officer in implementing the Data Protection Compliance Management System across South Africa and African subsidiaries.Key Responsibilities:Act as a privacy expert and advisor on data protection matters, including product development and day-to-day operations.Coordinate privacy leads within the region and serve as a contact point for regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.Handle data subject and third-party data requests under PAIA.Develop and deliver privacy training tailored to local and EU data protection laws.Support contract negotiations, data processing agreements, and privacy impact assessments.Conduct gap analyses and propose remediation plans.Draft and review data protection documentation, including notices, policies, and procedures.Investigate and manage data breaches in collaboration with the Chief Information Security Officer.Monitor legal and regulatory developments in data privacy and provide guidance on their implications.Ensure privacy-by-design principles are embedded in business processes.Qualifications and Skills:Education: LLB or equivalent; admitted attorney in South Africa.Experience: Minimum of 3 years post-admission experience.Preferred Certifications: CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or equivalent.Skills:Strong knowledge of privacy law and compliance frameworks.Experience drafting policies and procedures.Proficiency in SharePoint and MS Office.Understanding of legal, IT, and data security intersections.Excellent interpersonal and commercial awareness skills.
