Our Health team provides experts with decades of experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of health programmes and in the provision of analytical and advisory services that inform health policy and practice.
The Health practice has five areas of service expertise, namely:
Research, monitoring and evaluation Wedesign and implement a variety of research projects, from national household surveys to discrete and focused programme reviews, or process evaluations using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Behavioural sciences:We study why people struggle with making healthy decisions and develop tools that are often cheaper to use, more effective in changing health behaviour and, ultimately, more effective at achieving better health outcomes.
Health economics and costing: We focus on informing health-financing policies, conducting cost and efficiency analysis, strengthen public financial-management capacities and facilitate efficient implementation of health programmes leading to improved healthcare in the region.
Sustainable Health Systems:Through user-centred design and collaborative approaches, our team works to build capacity and empower public-health managers to optimise programme performance.
Digital Health:Using digital applications and services to improve the functioning of health systems, the collection and analysis of data, and improve access to and quality of health services
Our clients include all levels of government, development agencies, foundations, as well as regional and international organisations.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The Health Practice has 30 staff members, who work across about 20 projects at any given time. As the team has grown significantly, there is a need for a practice manager to steer the processes of the health practice, support our growth practice strategy, and ensure the firm-wide strategies and systems are implemented fully. Further to this, there is a need for this person to assist to maintain the culture of the practice as it grows (in staff and geography). This person would be expected to manage the practice administrator, ensure team coherence, as well as the smooth running of the health practice by ensuring day to day issues, are managed and troubleshoot where required. As the Practice takes on bigger projects across multiple clients and with teams working increasingly remotely, it is envisaged that this person would have a compliance and oversight role on those large projects too. Further to this person would be responsible for maintaining the culture of the practice as it grows and we expand.
The main functions are detailed below:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (Supported by the Practice Senior Management Team):
Working with the Practice Partners to implement the strategy of the Health Practice
Ensure that the strategy is updated and reviewed regularly
Ensure that the list of commitments by managers in the practice is maintained and updated
Ensure the development and implementation of strategies to maintain team/practice coherence to support healthy and productive teams (especially during remote working)

Ensuring the smooth running of the Health Practice, by coordinating and leading routine systems, including project management, proposal development, and health practice marketing efforts, as well as financial management, HR and time management systems
Project management:
Develop and oversee standard project management practices are applied across all projects
Ensure project life-cycle compliance
Ensure projects are documented and regularly updated within Genesis systems, including TeamDesk or equivalent, and relevant registries/resource sites
Ensure all project-related time is accurately recorded.

Proposal and opportunity identification:
Undertaking detailed analysis of opportunities and providing forecasting data for pipeline business development in line with the overall Health practice strategy
Work with the Business Development Unit to ensure that prospects are identified early
Maintain a database of prospects, and ensure that prospect management is being led by the relevant prospect champions
Coordinate Bid/No-bid discussions on new prospects and opportunities for large bids

Managing and coordinating proposal development efforts for the practice, ensuring compliance with client requirements, for a successful result (for large bids)
Manage the bid process, including the relevant reviews
Coordinate the submissions by sub-contractors, or our submissions if we are a subcontractor
Liaise with the Business Development Team to develop proposal budgets, and ensure compliance with client requirements

Lead marketing of the health practice, working with the Genesis Marketing Communications Manager
Development of marketing materials
Oversight of the Practice sections of the Genesis website

Lead Financial, HR and Timesheet related initiatives within the health practice:
Lead the monthly financial dashboard reconciliation and forecasting, including the Profit and Loss statement
HR-related activities: Work with HR to develop job descriptions where required

Work with hiring managers to develop /review case studies
Support interview and onboarding processes
Support with coordination of other HR functions in the practice: Induction, Training, Professional development

Timesheet related activities:

Ensure that staff time is accurately recorded in a standardised manner

Mentor and coordinate the work of the practice administrators and coordinators
QA administrator /co-ordinators deliverables
Be a go-to person for areas of uncertainty

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:
Relevant managing experience in management consulting organisations in the health sector is preferred
Degree in management or related field – a relevant Master’s degree will be a distinct advantage
A minimum of 10 years’ demonstrable and relevant operational management experience in a similar role within the consulting space is preferred
Experience working with large donors, specifically the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID, would be an added advantage
Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills e.g. demonstrated ability to format and edit reports and proposals
Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines essential
Working knowledge of MS Office suite essential
