The Job This is an exciting position in the Cane haulage equipment maintenance department and involves the maintenance of Haulage and Loading equipment. The position requires strong management skills and the ability to meet uptime targets of 94%, equipment reliability and efficiencies are a must.
The successful candidate will be actively involved in the day-today technical and administrative systems reporting to the Depot Manager.
The position entails management of vehicle maintenance activities in a safe, productive and efficient manner with team work being a critical factor.

The Person

Must be highly motivated, creative, and innovative.
Must have strong interpersonal and team building skills and willing to respond constructively to direction.
Must have good written and oral communication, organizational, analytical and computer skills.
The ability to work under pressure and have excellent diagnostics skills with attention to detail will be an added advantage.
Must have aDegree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with at least 10years’ experience (the maintenance of Bell and JCB Equipment would be favorable) with a thorough knowledge on engines, transmissions, hydraulics and general heavy duty plant maintenance. Sound hands-on auto-electrical knowledge is also a requirement.

Skills and Knowledge

Ability to monitor vehicle utilization and control of maintenance
Exposure to fabrication technologies (boiler making / welding)
Extensive and an in-depth knowledge of maintenance philosophies for a varied range of automotive and materials handling equipment, specifically:-

Service scheduling and planning
Cost and quality control
Budgeting and forecasting

Must be in possession of a B class driver’s license. Possession of a class EC driver’s license would be an added advantage

Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs
Able to communicate
Able to work under pressure
Deadline orientated
Good understanding of technical and financial components of the job
Must be figures orientated
Have sound IR and HR management capabilities
Self motivated and able to work to pre-determined goals
Must have sound knowledge of Safety and Health regulations

Key Performance Areas

Manage the workshop team
Develop and maintain a sound relationship with operations staff and suppliers
Manage the fleet maintenance program.
Manage the budget vehicle maintenance costs to acceptable levels

Manage stores stock levels and the purchase of replacement parts and equipment
Working knowledge of maintaining a haulage fleet comprising of trucks, tractors, trailers and loading equipment
