Materials Controller
Company Overview
A tissue manufacturing company in Kempton Park is seeking a Materials Controller with 3 - 5 years of experience in the paper/tissue or FMCG industry.
Responsibilities
Supervise incoming wadding and raw material processes, ensuring proper reconciliation.
Handle returns of rejected wadding and other materials to maintain sufficient daily stock.
Supervise stacking of raw materials, adhering to safety and FIFO standards.
Process all wadding-related transactions in the system.
Manage material transfers to machines and finished goods to storage, ensuring transaction accuracy in WMS and SYSPRO.
Ensure correct recording of material flow by operational staff.
Reconcile physical and system stock daily; prepare and execute stock counts.
Maintain high housekeeping standards.
Complete NCRs for rejected raw materials daily.
Coordinate with the supply planner for the uplift of rejected materials and prevent backlogs.
Ensure pallet stocks are sufficient to prevent production interruptions, especially before weekends.
Report and follow up on machinery breakdowns affecting material handling.
Store materials properly to prevent damage and ensure easy identification with correct labelling.
Manage redundant stock through write-offs, sales, or re-use strategies.
Communicate BOM inaccuracies using the trial kit process.
Drive compliance to prevent waste and ensure continuous material supply.
Handle rejected reels, ensuring they are wrapped, labelled, weighed, and stored correctly, with proper NCR documentation.
Collaborate with QA to ensure NCR compliance for reels and escalate issues appropriately.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Grade 12 (Matric) is required.
Studies in supply chain (BPIM or PPIM) are advantageous.
3-5 years' experience in FMCG manufacturing and materials management.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and ERP systems, preferably SYSPRO.
Ability to adhere to procedures, controls, and safety standards.
Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and system management skills.
Self-disciplined, motivated, and proactive.
Physically fit for lifting tasks.
Leadership ability to manage a team by example and enforce discipline.
Adherence to safe work practices and ERP procedures.
