We have a Fantastic opportunity for a Legal and Compliance Manager in the Financial Service Sector, Johannesburg
The objective includes the following:
Developing a framework and overseeing control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal guidelines and internal policies and procedures.
Evaluating the efficiency of processes and controls and improve continuously.
Revising procedures and reports periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues in respect of compliance, business rules, internal and external audit
Ensuring corporate governance process are followed and reporting on any potential breakdowns that may result in a documented loss.

Job brief
Ensure that the company and associated companies adhere to legal standards of industry specific regulation and in-house policies and processes.
Be responsible for enforcing regulations in all aspects and levels of the business and report into the executive/s.
Provide guidance on compliance matters and legal matters across the related companies.
Be well-versed and able to interpret legal guidelines and corporate governance best practices.
Should present themselves of the highest ethical standard and work diligently to complete duties keeping in mind the objectives of the business from both a compliance and commercial perspective.
Align with the goal of keeping the company’s integrity by making sure it stays on a lawful and ethical course in respect of the Financial Service conduct authority and any other pertinent legislation

Develop and oversee control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal guidelines and internal policies.
Oversee a team of individuals comprising of Risk and Compliance, Customer Experience and Quality assurance.
Monitor compliance with the FAIS Act, TCF, FICA and other relative legislation.
Evaluate the efficiency of controls and improve them continuously.
Revise procedures reports etc. periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues.
Prepare Management Reports on a monthly basis identifying trends and flags forewarning the executive of any potential risks to the business.
Draft, modify and implement company policies.
Collaborate with HR, IT and the Commercial department to monitor the enforcement of standards and regulations.
Assess the business’s future ventures to identify possible compliance risks.
Review the work of all staff when necessary to identify compliance issues and provide advice or training.
Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the company as well as evolving best practices in compliance control.
Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate.
Analyze and interpret regulatory legislation, and using a risk-based approach, develop risk management plans for specific legislation.
Continuously develop BCP process and ensure that the business continuity plans are relevant.
Interpret legislation and assist management with practical implementation thereof.
Research and communicate applicable legislation developments to all channels and stakeholders.
Provide advice on implementation strategies to be followed to ensure regulatory compliance
Monitoring control mechanisms that have been developed as part of risk management plans
Coordination of training related to specific legislative requirements (e.g. FICA, FAIS, TCF, CoI etc)
Self-study on new developments in field of expertise.

Proven experience as Compliance Manager
In-depth knowledge of the industry’s standards and regulations
Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping
Methodical and diligent with outstanding planning abilities
An analytical mind able to “see” the complexities of procedures and regulations
Excellent communication skills

Qualification in Law / LLB degree
PG Diploma in Compliance Management (preferably)

Experience & Knowledge:
4 years-experience as a Compliance Manager in the Financial Services Industry
Legal background is an advantage.
5 – 10 years’ experience in the long-term insurance industry with a focus on Funeral insurance
An added advantage would life insurance experience
Knowledge of financial services industry
Knowledge of compliance management
Knowledge of business processes

Salary: R 540 000 – R 600 000 CTC p/a
