Job Purpose
To support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include to: teach according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning, and develop service learning activities.
To facilitate teaching and learning in the Media Department and in the Post-Graduate Diploma and Master's in Communication and Media qualifications in particular.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A Master's degree in Media Studies/Communication or closest related qualification such as Film, Photography, Journalism etc. that has an underpinning of Communication theory.At least two (2) years' relevant teaching experience in Higher Education Recommendations: Substantive knowledge of the theory of Communication Science and Media StudiesSubstantive experience of the standards and practices in the Media and Communications industry.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Teach and assess Media Leadership, Media Innovation Management, Managing Communication Strategy, Positioning Organisational Relationships, Communication and Media Practice and/or Research MethodologyDevelop and Co-ordinate project-based learning in the programme and across the Media DepartmentPerform appropriate academic and administrative duties (including the effective Management of Marks Administration) Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the DepartmentParticipate in researchContribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into curriculum.Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co-operative education, new techniques/technologies, and research projectsTake the lead in managing marketing and recruitment activitiesDevelop partnerships with other institution in higher education and industry for the purposes of knowledge interchange and collaboration on project based learning and research Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of DepartmentGood organizing & planning skillsAbility to work independentlyGood Technical/Professional knowledgeInterpersonal SkillsStrong Learner focusCoaching & mentoring SkillsAptitude for continuous LearningA positive attitude and a willingness to contribute to the growth and development of the Media Department General Information Closing Date: 31 March 2024
