Purpose of Position: To design, develop, and produce learning and teaching material; deliver either across a range of modules or within a specific subject area and inspire meaningful discussions, consulting with other academics and professionals. Lecturers will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching. Manage programmes and grade assignments according to the Institutions' strategy, policy, and procedures, contributing to activities that influence leading-edge practice. Job Description and Responsibilities: General: Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars. Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams. Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the Institution. All academic staff are expected to engage in activities associated with the Institution's promotion, marketing, and public outreach. Contributing to student recruitment, placements, and student retention. Administrative duties in areas such as admissions, timetabling, examinations, and assessment of progress and student attendance. Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base. Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the Institution. Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field. Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books. Developing ideas for generating income and promoting the Institution. Developing ideas and find ways of disseminating and applying the results of scholarship. Student Learning Experience: Using appropriate learning, teaching, support, and assessment methods. Developing curricula and course material that can be used across several platforms. Supervising student projects and the academic elements of field trips, and, where appropriate, placements. Identifying areas where the current provision requires revision or improvement and contributing to the planning, design, and development of objectives and materials. Selecting appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assessing the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria, and providing constructive feedback to students. Ensuring that module design and delivery complies with quality standards and regulations of the Institution. Pastoral Care: Be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area. Providing support to other colleagues. Acting as a mentor, giving first-line support to students. Appreciating the needs of individual students and their circumstances. Using listening, interpersonal, and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students and providing support. Referring students as appropriate to services to provide further support. Depending on the work area (for example, laboratories, workshops, studios), conducting risk assessments, taking steps to reduce hazards, and taking responsibility for the health and safety of self and others. Acting as a responsible team member, leading where agreed, and developing productive working relationships with other staff members. Minimum Requirements: A relevant Honours degree (NQF 8) in a related field of study with sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the related field. Previous teaching experience (contact, blended, and distance learning). Published work would be advantageous. Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work extended hours to reach deliverables. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills. Where applicable/mandatory, professional registration with a relevant Board.
