Job Purpose
The Associate Consultant will form part of the Land team's senior management and support a rapidly growing team of environmental professionals primarily focused on the delivery of projects associated with several downstream Oil & Gas sector clients, covering contaminated land assessment, environmental liability management and remediation projects.
This will include specifically Programme Management and Business Development associated with at least two key clients in the Oil and Gas industry.
This would entail close engagement with the Client contacts at each organisation, as well as effectively driving the completion of work by the SLR team members.
A sound knowledge of risk-based approaches to sustainable environmental management and relevant South African contaminated land and waste legislation is critical.
As a senior member of the Land Quality and Remediation (LQR) team, you will be key to growing, providing senior technical expertise, and mentoring staff within your region and across Southern Africa.
This will include technical expertise in land and groundwater contamination, including vapour impacts.
While the team has a strong focus on downstream Oil & Gas sector clients, the opportunity will also exist to participate in other SLR key client projects within the infrastructure, mining, commercial/industrial, and waste sectors.
Minimum Requirements Over 12 years' relevant work experience.B.Sc.
(Hons) or Masters in Geology / Earth Science and a postgraduate degree in related field;Must be able to proactively manage land quality and remediation projects, take responsibility of resource allocation, liaise with clients, specialists and authorities, manage quality assurance/client feedback and ensure they meet budgetary, quality, safety and timeframe targets, while exceeding client expectations.A track record of understanding a client's needs in the land quality and remediation sector and interpret this in the context of national regulations and international finance requirements in order to guide the client and the project team.Must be able to develop and sustain client relationships leading to repeat business.Proficiency in MSExcel and Word;Business acumen, development and planning and client/account management experience.Staff management, time management, project planning and strong written and verbal communication skills.Hold a relevant professional certification.Willingness and ability to travel.Valid driver's license.Key Responsibilities Programme Management and Business Development associated with key clients.Close engagement with the Client contacts, as well as effectively driving the completion of work by the SLR team members.Provide strategic and technical consulting advice to clients and SLR staff and managers working on contaminated site/remediation projects and proposals in southern Africa.Act as the regional team lead (KZN) for the land, quality & remediation team based in our Durban office as well as others throughout Africa.Mentor and train staff; identify and implement strategies to enhance SLR's technical expertise and innovation related to contaminated site assessment and management.Perform support and supervisory role to ensure the team's alignment with the Clients technical and administrative approaches, Health and Safety expectations and to drive efficiency.Act as a technical focal point to ensure deliverables (proposals, site work, reporting, presentations etc.)
are to a high technical quality and meet client needs and the highest standards of industry best practice.Manage complex and significant projects and proposals, budgets, and schedules.Complete detailed QA/QC reviews of technical work, reports, and proposals.Drive staff compliance with SLR administrative procedures and processes and KPIs.Coordinate the delivery of projects at a regional level while maintaining effective day to day communication with other Regional SLR leads and the Client Portfolio Managers.Track and report KPIs (including but not limited to) project schedules; budgets; and Health and Safety performance specific to each Client's requirements.Steward SLR's "One Team, All Safe" Health & Safety culture while also imparting knowledge and the practical application of the Health & Safety requirements unique to contaminated land investigations, as well as client-specific needs.Proactively pursue, develop, and enact business development strategies to expand LQR's client base within the region and across Southern Africa and enhance SLR's marketplace reputation and presence the technical discipline.
This would include the Oil & Gas sector, as well as within the mining, waste, infrastructure and industrial sectors.Undertake Business Development activities, including making presentations to existing and potential clients, professional and industry associations, regulators, as well as internally.Skills/ Attributes Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated skill in technical report writing and client communication.Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and priorities.High level technical and problem-solving skills.Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.Should be able to lead a team and communicate clearly and confidently with others.The ability to manage others to work to deadlines and set budgets is essential.Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.SLR's approved Employment Equity Plan and Targets will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
