The Laboratory Technician (Microbiology) will be based in ALS Analysis and Inspection (Durban) and will ensure analysis of accurate results.Application Deadline: 05th May, 2025Responsibilities include:Perform routine microbiological analysis on commodities and various sample matrices as required.Familiarity with general instrumental equipment and apparatus used for Microbiological Analysis.Conduct general and routine analyses by aseptic methods according to standard procedures.Carry out calibration/verification checks on apparatus and record these checks appropriately.Calculate analysis results and report them on certificates of analysis and raw data sheets.Perform quality tasks as instructed by the Quality Coordinator.Investigate root causes and implement effective corrective actions for non-conforming work.Complete microbiological controls and record results on relevant quality documents.Review reporting of results and information for accuracy before finalizing client reports.Ensure timely turnaround for clients.Assist with other tasks as directed by Laboratory Supervisor or Site Manager.Ensure microbiological resources are available for work commencement.Prepare media and reagents as needed.Inform management of equipment issues promptly.Follow laboratory rules, safety regulations, and documented procedures at all times.Document analyses clearly and report in the required format for review.Validate test methods under the supervision of the Site Manager.Conduct training for in-service students as directed.Fulfill duties of Technical Signatory as per ISO 17025 requirements where applicable.Follow documented test methods and reference standards during testing.Maintain cleanliness of the laboratory as per schedule and procedures.Monitor and record environmental conditions periodically.Use resources efficiently.Handle samples/materials safely throughout the process.Dispose of waste safely and properly.Minimum Requirements:A Diploma or Degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, or Food Science from a recognized institution.At least 1 year of experience in a microbiological laboratory/environment.Fluent in English, both written and oral.Ability to anticipate needs, investigate, resolve queries, and multitask under deadlines.Attention to detail, accountability, teamwork, and effective communication skills.Organized, flexible, and respectful of diverse cultures.Maintain confidentiality and integrity.Computer literate and willing to adhere to company policies.Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and preventive skills.
