Santam Brand Services has a permanent position available for a Head: Market Development reporting to the Executive Brand Services. This role will either be based in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose is to explore and grow opportunities in the marketplace and contribute towards building sustainable business relationships, partnering for risk reduction, consumer financial education and providing relevant solutions for our clients and stakeholders by:
• Growing multi-stakeholder relationships to reduce risk, whilst driving efforts to improve commercial risk to the sustainability of the company
• Creating brand value
• Explore and develop new opportunities for growth– finding solutions for our stakeholders, shareholders and potential clients to reduce risk
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Alignment
• Participate in the development of the Santam Group and Brand Services overall strategy
• Develop strategies for Market Development and commnication plans to ensure alignment with the strategy
• Identify other strategic growth opportunities and revenue growth for distribution channels through CFE
• Develop a 5-year strategy with special focus on P4RR, CSI and Stakeholder Relations Management
• Cultivates strong business relationships while demonstrating full understanding of Santam’s growth and effective partnerships business model
Operations, Products, Customers
• Analyse insurance industry needs and support business channels to design solutions to meet growth needs
• Develop engagement plans and disseminate product knowledge to all stakeholders
• Support Brand Services strategy to comply with Santam’s regulations and relevant legislation
• Provide disaster risk reduction and resilience (insurance) support to the industry
• Complete quarterly shareholder reporting on financial and strategic performance
• Manage service level agreements with third party suppliers
• Create awareness of Santam’s business processes and ensure inclusivity while engaging with various stakeholders
• Contribute towards business growth by demonstrating sound understanding of the short-term insurance industry and its dynamics
Financial
• Compile and manage business unit budget and forecasts
• Monitor implementation of the CSI, P4RR and Stakeholder Relations and its contribution to Santam’s reputation in the market
• Identify new opportunities for partnerships and growth toward Santam ‘s revenue
• Manage projects and initiatives to ensure the portfolio Market Development Function is carried out in a cost-effective manner
Risk Management
• Monitor policies and procedures to eliminate fraud, underwriting and operational risk
• Monitor and develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant laws
• Manage reputational risk by dealing with reputational issues
Leadership
• Leadership of Stakeholder Management team and defining objectives
• Ensure staff training and manage performance of direct reports
• Talent management of direct reports, including career development and succession planning
• Ensure that the working environment contributes to improving staff morale and increasing engagement and productivity
• Align to the Santam’s transformation objectives through departmental processes
What will make you successful in this role?

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, REQUIREMENTS
• Relevant Tertiary Qualification
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a senior role in a corporate environment
• 3 years at Strategic Leadership
• Business development and customer relationship management experience
• Marketing experience (advantageous)
• Short-term insurance industry experience is advantageous
• Experience in building relationships with external and internal stakeholders (government - national, provincial and local), suppliers, business partners (e.g., Brokers / intermediaries & their associations, organised business structures (BUSA, AHI, NAFCOC, BMF, ABSIP), labour unions etc.
• Must be prepared to travel both locally and internationally
