Located in South Africa, this position will report to the Managing Director and is responsible for General Ledger, Statutory and Legal Requirements.
Primary responsibilities will include: providing leadership in a variety of compliance, fiscal and statutory financial areas; and ensuring financial reports are accurate and developed within company policies. Follows appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with financial management principles and practices and applicable laws, rules, and regulations; monitors compliance with these areas. Liaises with Business Senior Finance Managers in responding to questions and concerns from senior management regarding a variety of financial operations and results.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Manage the local Finance team as well as give directions to and coordinate activities with external consultants and Finance shared service center.
Responsible for accounting in 2 legal entities in South Africa under US GAAP and local GAAP.
Perform month-end closes within 2 working days which involves creating (or supervising) and uploading journal entries into Oracle 11i and carrying out various checks, controls, and adjustments.
Prepare or supervise preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations.
Perform fiscal year-end closes of US-GAAP and local statutory books in local GAAP.
Handle/manage internal audits, statutory year-end audits, and tax audits.
Assume local responsibility for tax affairs.
Prepare or oversee tax and other statutory filings and other governmental reports/statistics (where required) in conjunction with the Corporate US tax manager and with local advisors.
Coordinate with purchasing department and Shared team to ensure timely processing of supplier invoices, clearing invoices on-hold, and coding of non-PO invoices.
Work together with HR management to ensure correct processing and accounting of payroll.
Prepare local statutory accounts for the 2 legal entities, including one entity with significant international operations with sales exceeding $30 million; and manage the external audit.
To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be expected
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance is required. Honours Degree is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, with a minimum of 5 years of financial management experience
Experience with local tax is a prerequisite.
Experience with a major audit firm could be useful.
Working knowledge of manufacturing environment
Proven experience in US GAAP
Strong analytical ability and IT/PC skills (ideally Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Oracle)
Experience working in diverse cultures and languages
Supervising and evaluating employees
Working to tight deadlines
Managing multiple financial management programs
Applying comprehensive financial management principles and practices
Applying multiple broad specialized accounting or finance principles in areas of assignment
Applying principles and practices in various other disciplines, such as information technology, purchasing, supply-chain, etc.
Leading change assignments
Analyzing and accounting reports and documents and recommending change
Ensuring applicable laws, rules, and regulations are met
Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction.
