Field Operator (Precision Farming)

Main purpose of the job
Taking of soil sample tubes on a GPS-based grid with the Geoprobe mechanical augers.
Taking of chemical samples on a GPS-based grid.
Assisting with the maintenance of the SGS NviroCrop field equipment and offices.
To contact client as soon as work has been scheduled.
To obtain the original signed order form from the client on the farm.
To make sure that all work that was scheduled is done.
Making sure that the farm lands that sample tubes are taken on, agrees with what the client has requested.
To make sure that all samples tubes are taken within the necessary GPS-boundaries.
Taking into account the type of soil making sure that tubes are drilled to the correct depth.
Making sure that all tubes are delivered to the site as soon as the work is done, and the relevant files and information are sent to the admin department.
Making sure that all equipment is checked and in working order.
Making sure that all Health and Safety rules are adhered to when working with the mechanical augers
Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 with at least 5 years’ experience in field operations of precision farming
Working with Geoprobe mechanical auger.
Must have a general knowledge of different soil types to be able to determine the depth to drill on different soil types.
Experience on driving with Toyota Land Cruiser towing a Geoprobe drill on a trailer
Client liaison and good communication skills
Good team player and spirit of cooperation.
Problem-solving attitude, independent-minded.
Ability to work under pressure and availability to work flexible hours.
Interest for the sector (s) activities.
Good computer skills
Fluency in Afrikaans and English
