Introduction

eNCA: SOUTH AFRICA’S MOST WATCHED TV NEWS CHANNEL. eNCA is South Africa’s most trusted independent TV and online news brand. It launched on June 1st, 2008 to become the country’s first 24-hour television news service.Reporting to the HOD Technical Operations.

The purpose of this role is to be a vital link between the Director in the control room and people on the floor (talent guest and studio floor staff). They pass information and cues to talent and make sure all staff on the studio/location floor adhere to production requirements at all times.

1.Management
•Communicating all instructions from director to presenters and crew on the studio floor, either by voice or signal.
•Assisting in the planning and preparation of productions;
•Overseeing the work of other departments, such as lighting and props;
•Keeping the director and producer informed of action off-camera;
•Ensure call times are adhered to, for crew, guests, audience and artists
•Ensure all set ups required for shoot, e.g. set furniture, backdrops etc, are put in place
•Liaising with public relations staff to agree who will be interviewed, for example at sports matches;
•Passing information and progress reports from live events to studio presenters;
•Adhering to health and safety regulations, e.g. keeping ‘safe areas’ and fire exits clear of equipment.
•Looking ahead in the programme schedule to anticipate any changes to the set or to see what props are required later in the show;

2.Studio
•Floor managing in-studio and or outside broadcasts/productions
•Update presenters with changes in scripts while on air
•Maintain discipline on the floor while on air
•Ensure guests are in studio on time
•checking that equipment, e.g. microphones and earpieces, are working before the show;
•Ensure guests understand studio protocol e.g. cell phones off, silence when not answering a question etc.
•Relaying instructions from the control room to the studio floor;
•Responsible for presenters needs e.g. water, scripts
•Seating the audience (if in attendance);
•Referring to floor plans;
•Dealing with any technical problems or crises;
•Controlling the studio and halting production if necessary;
•Managing the audience, explaining safety requirements, show timings and explaining what will happen during filming and when the programme will be aired;
•Briefing and looking after those involved in the programme;
•giving cues and time counts to presenters, actors or guests;
•organising runners to make the best use of studio time;
•rehearsing live shows;

Education: Relevant tertiary qualification
Languages: Business English
