Key Purpose of the role
The primary function of this role is to effectively medically and technically assess and manage disability claims submitted to Discovery Group Risk Disability Claims.
The role also involves participating in projects to develop the team, business, and personal growth.
The incumbent must ensure operational activities are conducted within regulatory frameworks, accurately, effectively, and efficiently, with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet service level agreements.
The candidate should be eager to be part of a growing business unit, embrace continuous improvement, adapt easily to change, challenge the status quo, and motivate others.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

Validating and assessing all disability claims according to company policy with a client-centered approach.
Reviewing and following up on claims within authority structures and targets.
Making medically researched, legally defendable, fair, and justifiable decisions.
Communicating clearly and professionally with stakeholders and clients.
Ensuring all communications comply with company policy and the POPI Act.
Responding correctly and fairly to all queries.
Providing medical expertise, training, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
Collaborating with Medical Officers, Reinsurers, Legal Officers, and other professionals.
Working effectively in a team and contributing to team processes.
Creating initiatives for change and improvement.
Maintaining and developing professional relationships with clients.
Participating in projects and professional development activities.
Preparing for audits and compliance reviews.

Education and Experience

Medical Degree or Allied Professional degree from a registered university.
Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, or related fields, preferably with vocational assessment experience.
Additional courses like Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation are recommended.
2-4 years of clinical experience.
Experience in insurance or wellness industries is preferred but not required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
