Information on the company Our client is a communications consultancy operating in the UK. They offer full support with events, training, digital and creative media production.

Main Purpose of the role:

To sell delegate places at conferences, generating revenue and volumes and help achieve the overall financial targets of each event.

The delegate sales executive will be responsible for making outbound sales calls and emails to leads provided by the marketing manager; converting as many of them as possible into paying delegates; and registering them on to the booking system.

The role also involves building contact lists for marketing and sales purposes, as well as providing a degree of ad hoc administrative support to the marketing team and the Business Development Manager.

Main Duties

Key activities involved in the role of Delegate Sales Executive:

Telephone sales

- Conducting a telesales campaign (contacting prospective conference delegates by telephone and converting them into paying attendees where possible)
- Closing sales and achieving sales targets as appropriate, in line with agreed objectives
- Building a sales pipeline and reporting this back to the marketing manager and head of conferences
- Receiving and absorbing sales briefs delivered by the production and marketing teams, making sure everything is understood and that any queries are raised and explained
- Handling objections and digging deeper in conversations with contacts, sourcing new leads and adding these into the campaign
- Seeking and recording reasons for any declines and reporting these back to the marketing manager
- Attempting to speak to every prospect by telephone and following up with an email only if repeated attempts are unsuccessful
- Reporting key performance figures to the management team
- Logging all calls and details of conversations in Salesforce; using this resource as your primary driver of activity
- Meeting pre-agreed daily call volume and length targets
- Building relationships with key companies in the various industries served by us and treating these as key accounts, nurturing them to maximise delegate attendance at conferences

Data building

- Working with the marketing team to grow, code and cleanse the Waterfront database and help to meet the annual target on database growth
- When requested, building lists of contact details for prospective delegates by searching the Internet and other media; verifying these by telephone and adding them to the database
- Occasionally attending events in order to source new leads and generate sales opportunities for the business


- Participating in weekly team meetings and reporting observations to help focus team priorities
- Making suggestions for new products or services, informed by regular communication with market players
- Identifying leads who could be upsold to sponsorship packages and passing them on to the business development manager; helping to nurture these leads if required
- Attending conferences where possible/requested and assisting with on-site administrative matters, as well as networking with your contacts and prospects face-to-face
- Working closely with the head of conferences and the production and marketing teams to build understanding of the target audience/prospects for the portfolio of products
- Suggesting new ways to improve our offering, presence and brand image, both online and at events
- Identifying opportunities to sell other services to the head of conferences and the MD where appropriate
- Supporting the Group by attending occasional client parties and contributing ideas in cross-divisional meetings
- Providing ad-hoc administrative support as requested by your line manager


- Ensuring you apply rigorous quality control to every communication you have with the market
- Maintaining a cheery, enthusiastic and optimistic demeanour whilst on the phone
- Performing any other duties deemed necessary by your line manager
