MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Dean of Faculty is the academic head of a faculty and as such provides academic leadership and accountability for a set of programmes within the faculty and its associated schools and departments at brand level. The Dean is responsible for the quality assurance of all qualifications, short learning programmes and skills courses offered by and conferred through that faculty. This includes programme development and curriculum review; assessments and moderation; prescribed texts; as well as effective delivery of the curriculum at site level. The role encompasses academic governance, strategic input into the faculty as well as scholarship within the academic faculty team.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Contributes to overall quality assurance processes of the group as it relates to all programmes and courses within
the faculty.This includes strategic planning, budgeting and allocation of resources for programme development, review and
study guide updates.Programme review at least every three years so that programme re-accreditation criteria are met, and programmes
are kept updated and relevant.Management of module content updates and study material and collaborates with the eLearning Manager to
digitize materials in MyClass (Moodle LMS).Quality assures the work done by brand Heads of Faculty, Heads of School, Heads of Department, Programmes
Managers and Modules leaders.Works with brand on academic calendar for programmesProviding Manager of Library and Information Services for the Group with list of annual prescribed and
recommended readings and eBooks where appropriateLiaising with Dean of Teaching and Learning to ensure innovative pedagogy and use of technology to support
learning is incorporates into the programme materials and deliveryCreates and quality assures a fact sheet for each programme and ensures appropriate staff at site level have
programme knowledge.Ensures that each brand aligns its programme offering to the correct schools and faculty and that this is reflected on websites, fact sheets and other marketing collateral'sIdentifies, resolves and monitors problems and issues related to the functions of the faculty.Ensure Systems and Practices protect the integrity of all assessments.Review nature of assessments and drive assessment as learning, assessment for learning and assessment of
learning.Provide academic leadership in assessment design and the constructive alignment of assessments to learning
outcomes.Contribute to Assessment Policy development and associated processes for implementation.Contribute to Moderation Policy development and associated processes for implementation.Responsible for managing internal and external moderation processes.Quality assure all assessments practices at site, brand and group level and ensure deadlines are metEnsure a secure assessment system and protocols and renew as needed for both contact delivery and the distance
brands.Oversee briefing to all assessors, moderators and invigilatorsContribute Faculty Results overview to Examinations Committee.Analyse Faculty academic results per module, per student and per programme and per cohort to make
recommendations that effect improvements in curricular or assessments where needed and in student success.Liaise with Dean of Teaching and Learning regarding academic interventions within the faculty as identified
through results analyses.Leads the process of evaluation and development of a portfolio of qualifications and courses in the faculty in
collaboration with the Heads of Brand and Dean of Research and Development.Evaluates existing portfolio of both HE and TVET programmes and makes recommendations.Input into the development of relevant short courses/SLPs in the faculty.Analyses, reports and develops responses to brand results, programme evaluations, marketing feedback and
changes in the landscape.Works with industry to assess the need for future qualifications and to monitor relevance of existing qualifications.Represent Institute on external bodies such as CHE Accreditation Programme Evaluation or professional bodies
associates with Faculty subject field.Networks with industry, stakeholder and Higher Education Providers toEnsure articulation of degrees into postgraduate programmes as other institutionsSecure endorsements for brand programmesTo identify subject matter experts and external moderators for exit level modulesTo create opportunities for future employment of graduates and liaise with the Head of iWork Student Employment
CentreRepresent the faculty on Senate and its sub-committeesChairs the relevant Faculty Board and contributes to the development of items for the BoardDevelops policy as required and contributes to policy reviewDevelops Guideline documents where appropriate to assist with driving processes in line with policiesManage formal processes related to curriculum development and renewal through the group’s governance structuresManages formal processes related to assessments and moderation for all brandsOversees compliance with policies, regulatory frameworks and group governance and addresses any risk issues within facultyResolves any areas of non-compliance and escalates concerns to the Governance and Registrar’s office where
appropriateApproval of lecturers to teach on faculty programmes so that one-up regulatory requirements in the cognate area are adhered toApproval of all Assessors, Moderators, Invigilators and Independent ContractorsMonitor faculty academic staff workloads and approvals of types of Academic LeaveDevelops a research profile for faculty in collaboration with the Research Unit.Promoting Scholarship and Research outputs of Academic Staff in the faculties that are brand based.Collaborates with site academic staff to write study guides and textbooksGuides and mentors academic staff who write articles for presentation and submission to accredited journals.Supervises postgraduate students and trains site postgraduate co-ordinators and supervisors.Encourages and mentors academic staff with higher degree studiesContributes to the development of Scholarship through the OSD.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:1.PhD or Doctorate required in the cognate subject field of Faculty. We may consider a Masters in the cognate field with extensive curriculum development experience.2.At least five years at Senior Lecturer level or above in higher education3.At least three years high-level Academic Management experience4.A proven teaching and research portfolio with curriculum development and assessment design experience.5.Experience in dealing with regulatory affairs and academic quality assurance processes within a higher education environment.COMPETENCIES OF THE JOB:1.Effective leadership and management skills.2.High level communication skills.3.Excellent organisational skills.4.Analytical and quantitative skills appropriate to academic management5.Skills in curricular design and review.6.The ability to plan, manage and implement change effectively.7.Ability to lead and to manage projects to agreed deadlines.8.An understanding of the principles and practice of policy and operational development, implementation and evaluation.9.The ability to effectively promote the work of the Faculty and schools within the brands10.Self-motivation and capacity for innovation.Job Closing Date 18/09/2019
