The Data Governance Specialist role shall span Old Mutual group which shall cover both South Africa and Rest of Africa regions (ROA). The responsibilities, in part or completely, as a Data Governance Specialist in the Data and Information Management team, would be driving data governance and metadata capabilities and creating the right levels of awareness for Old Mutual Limited, leading the embedment of these capabilities within the data management practices, and to be a point of contact for business stakeholders. In addition, provide strategic assurance, and visibility of gaps, to Old Mutual of the degree of alignment of the following elements to best practice standards, group policies and applicable legislation.

Data Governance

· Define information management standards, documents and communicates them to all relevant stakeholders.
· Ensure and track that all things happen as per design – (legislative , best practice, etc.)
· Facilitates the definition of consistent business rules aligned to defined standards.
· Ensure the implementation of defined standards through embedding in existing / new business processes.
· Monitors adherence to defined standards.
· Highlights any existing gaps between defined application of business rules and what is actually in effect, and facilitates the processes of closing identified gaps with the respective Business Units.
Metadata Management

· Develop, drive and implement metadata standards, processes and meta-model for Old Mutual Limited in line with best practices and data strategies.
· Design, develop and maintain the metadata rules repository and the enterprise data catalogue that will enable easy and elastic searchability and drive consistent understanding and interpretation of data assets.
· Engage and work closely with Enterprise Architecture and Information Technology and ensure that metadata management is incorporated as part of systems development lifecycle processes and for key strategic initiatives that are data related.
· Collaborate with the data stewardship community and work with stakeholders across multiple geographies when embedding metadata practices; as well as ensure the embedment of metadata measures and metrics.
Regulatory And Policy Adherence:
·Provide a view on any relevant regulation pertaining to information and data management in the financial services industry.
·Cascade regulatory compliance for Information data management from group policies into applicability in the SA legal entity context.
·Manage the journey up to practical implementation of new regulations, pertaining to how data is handled.
·Ensure the enforcement of the privacy and security rules pertaining to data.
·Monitors risks pertaining to data exposure and highlights required remedial action.
Operational Delivery:

·Build strong relationships with system owners and database administrators and develop in depth understanding of the different data sources that exist in Old Mutual Limited so that metadata management is a key feature of change management processes with the organisation.
·Support the facilitation and data practice engagement through the stewardship forum.
·Establish and implement the governance requirements for managing metadata: business metadata, operational metadata, technical metadata.
·Conduct source to target mapping of data flows with the aim of producing data lineage and surfacing all the calculations and transformation rules that reside in between stages of data movements.
·Put in place processes that will ensure the usage of data lineage views for conducting impact analysis for system development, data architecture changes, etc.

Job Requirements
·Extensive understanding of the Insurance Industry and Old Mutual environment / landscape
·Matric with a relevant tertiary qualification is required
·Minimum of 5 years demonstrated, relevant experience in a large, complex organization preferably in the financial services industry
·A post graduate qualification in data studies is advantageous
·Proven experience with several agile development methodologies, frameworks and concepts, including Kanban, Scrum, continuous delivery will be advantageous
·Self-starter with outstanding organizational skills and ability to track multiple dependencies (3-5) going on all at once
·Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, comfort in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment
·Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate complex messages in simple language for better buy-in and tell a compelling story
·Excellent interpersonal skills
