Job Description

Reuters is looking for a head of visuals to drive our coverage of sub-Saharan Africa for both video and pictures. This is a unique chance to help transform our visual reporting operations across 46 countries by building on our existing strong base and developing a multi-skilled team that is both editorially focused and accomplished at storytelling. For a visuals editor, this is the professional opportunity of a lifetime.
You will have a strong video news background or be an experienced pictures leader with strong video experience. Passionate about news and winning the spot story, you will have a strong flair for the feature stories that work in the digital age.
Based in Johannesburg, this job will give you responsibility for the day-to-day direction of a large team of staff and stringers in both video and photo delivering fast, accurate and original coverage to our client base worldwide. You will also develop and guide the longer-term strategy for covering Africa. A strong leader, you will above all be an accomplished journalist who can marry a passion for news with the detail of the logistics that make things possible.

As our trustedChief Visuals Producer,you will:
Lead the visuals operation across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Ensure our teams are positioned to deliver high-quality video and pictures at speed to all Reuters customers.

Ensure Africa is aligned with visuals strategy, specifically with a view to broadcast and digital video clients and multimedia.

Work with colleagues from text to help create a truly unified newsgathering team.

Ensure that multimedia working across the region becomes part of our bureaus day to day planning coordination and coverage.

Ensure all recruitment decisions are aligned with our strategic plan for video and with a strong focus on diversity.

To be ourChief Visuals Producer,you will likely have:
Senior editorial experience in agency and/or broadcast television newsgathering and production.

Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate local and remote teams.

The ability to deliver breaking news fast, and feature coverage that engages.

A deep understanding of the digital landscape and the needs of Reuters customers.

Experience of managing teams in hostile environments.

A clear understanding of the news pictures needs of news media around the world.

A thorough understanding of the latest digital visual technologies for photographing and filming.

Strong planning and organisational skills.

Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships quickly.

A desire to work cooperatively with text colleagues to deliver the best file possible.

Ability to drive speed and accuracy

Fluent French as well as native-level written and spoken English.

An unwavering commitment to accurate, impartial reporting.
