Brief DescriptionPOSITION: ASSOCIATION RESEARCHER AC.09 The WSPH wishes to recruit an Associate Researcher with a grounding in social and behavioural sciences to provide support to the Health and Society (H&S) Division. The H&S Division, comprisesa multidisciplinary team of academics and researchers from Wits University who teach and conduct research on the social determinants of health, including gender-based violence, mental health, commercial determinants and other structural determinants, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa.The H&S division also houses the leadership of a Division of Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC), which provides thought leadership, capacity strengthening and research in this field. The Wits SPH invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for appointment to the position of Associate Researcher in the Health & Society Division, with a focus on qualitative research and grounding in the social and/or behavioural sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning, coordination and administration of key research projects. This will include research assistance with ongoing projects and support for new grant applications. Qualifications, experience and skills Master's degree in public health or the social sciences (or completion of coursework components)Grounding in SBCC, professionally and/or academicallyEvidence of conducting qualitative research, including conceptualisation, data collection and analysis Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge on SBCC, health equity and social determinants of health Advanced project management skills Computer proficiency in standard packages (word processing, e-mail, internet use, PowerPoint and spreadsheets) and at least one qualitative data analysis package, e.g. MaxQDA or NVivoGood interpersonal skills, and experience of working in, or coordinating teams Duties Coordination and support: Provide coordination and administrative support of earmarked research projects for the Health & Society Division; this includes coordinating components of the projects, preparing reports, monitoring implementation of activities, and supporting the development of communication materials (website and brochures).Research, Scholarship and innovation: Contribute to data collection, analysis and research utilisation efforts. Support ongoing efforts to grow the Social and Behaviour Change Communication work of the division, including contributing to grant writing. Contribute to capacity strengthening efforts.Academic citizenship: Ensure liaison with researchers and research entities in the field of SBCC and with relevant external bodies including government departments, schools, corporate, NGOs and communities.
